Badminton: Six in a row for China
CHINA’S women’s team lived up to their ‘invincible’ tag by clinching a record 11th Uber Cup title after an easy 3-0 whitewash of hosts Indonesia in the final at the Istora Senayan last night.
The Chinese women also eclipsed their own previous record of five straight triumphs achieved between 1984-1992 with the sixth consecutive crown in a run that began in 1998.
They have also not lost a tie in the Finals since losing 1-4 to Indonesia in the 1996 final in Hong Kong.
For the youthful Indonesia team, the failure to end a 12-year drought and lift the Uber Cup for a fourth time was a bitter pill to swallow, especially when playing in front of their vocal home crowd.
